How is Intercom's real price calculated?

To show you how Intercom’s pricing model works, we calculated their real price based on the Grow plan.

The starting price is $99/mo. That includes 5 agents and 2,000 chats/mo (so-called “people reached”). One agent can handle about 2,000 chats/mo. It means if you have more than one agent, you have to pay $50/mo for each 1,000 extra chats, and if you have more than 5 agents, you must pay $19/mo for each additional agent. Let’s count the real price depending on team size:

  • 1 agent — $99 per agent/mo
  • 5 agents — $100 per agent/mo ($99 + $400 for 8,000 extra chats = $499/mo divided by 5 agents)
  • 15 agents — $113 per agent/mo ($99 + $1400 for 28,000 extra chats + $190 for 10 additional agents = $1,689/mo divided by 15 agents)

The real average price is $104 per agent/mo ($99 + $100 + $113 divided by 3).

How is Intercom's real price for extra channels calculated?

Let’s say you want to connect 3 channels to your live chat: Facebook, Viber, and Telegram. To do so, you have to use a third-party add-on (e.g., Octopods) and pay extra according to their pricing.

Integration with 3 channels itself costs $127/mo. It includes 2,000 messages/mo (sent and received), and you also have to pay $0,008 per each extra message. Let’s assume that about 30% of all your chats will come from these channels, and one chat will contain about 10 messages. Depending on your team size, we get the following numbers:

  • 1 agent — $159 per agent/mo ($127 + $32 for 4,000 extra messages)
  • 5 agents — $70 per agent/mo ($127 + $224 for 28,000 extra messages = $351/mo divided by 5 agents)
  • 15 agents — $55 per agent/mo ($127 + $704 for 88,000 extra messages = $831/mo divided by 15 agents)

The average price for extra channels is $95 per agent/mo ($159 + $70 + $55 divided by 3).
